Best buy was having a 2 years-same-as-cash sale on appliances, and the appliances that came with my house are all original. I did some research and decided to wait until January (at least) to get a new washer/dryer, since the new energy star ratings go into place then, and that's an important thing for those kinds of things.

I scheduled my delivery for Friday and my installation on Saturday - and then had to reschedule that as I had to do a pitch to the customer on a new service which somewhat precluded me being at home for that, since I have yet to master being in two places at once. Since they can't reschedule for Saturday as that's when the installers are coming (brilliant), they reschedule for Monday.

They called me on Sunday and gave me a 3.30 to 5.30 install date, and mentioned they were bringing two icemaker kits. Huh? I called the store and mentioned it - they credited my account for one of them. Then they called Monday morning saying "oh by the way we're not delivering your dishwasher because they're out of stock." WTF? They had them in stock when I ordered them, I know, I saw the guy check. But they don't have it now - weird inventory problem.

So, the guys come to deliver it, I say "hey, where's the ice maker" and they say it is in the fridge. I have them drop the fridge off in the garage, because they say the installers will take the refridgerator away, so they should have dollies and such, thus, why haul it into the house?

The installer guys get here, and HAH they don't haul away fridges! Or they could, for $80 but hello I paid for that. So a couple of calls to best buy later, we've decided that they will try and deliver an ice maker kit, and we'll install the fridge later. Sigh.

And my microwave is installed, but now there's a crappy looking piece of non-tilework above the stove since they had to take out a spacer and hopefully I can just have the handy man fix it - install the spacer below the microwave so it doesn't look yukky.

sounds like you had about as much fun with your appliance installations as i did with my satellite and HDTV install. ugh. customer service in the installation industry has gone to shit. i have a theory that it's due to the outsourcing of installation services to third party installers. was your install done by best buy themselves, or do they subcontract out to an installation company that represents them? curious.

They outsource to a 3rd party installer, and yes - I think it's a source of confusion...

Don't buy from the big blue box. Find a local mom and pop. Best Buy charges less up front but nails you with the charges and the hassels of people who are working for a paycheck versus working to build customers.
