Lost at HOE last night, but I was pretty much just giving away my money, and I should know better.

I have GOT to learn how to play O/8. felicialee1Felicia, any hints tips or suggestions you want to give would be much appreciated - I have a hard time figuring out what is a GOOD hand in O, O/8 or Stud Hi. I know what's good in Stud/8 but that's because you're going for scooping the pot.

It ALSO looks like that instead of coming home on Sunday and having a nice relaxing day at home recovering before going back to work, that I'm going to have to figure out how to change my travel plans to go from Vegas to PHX for a week for business ( and then go home. Not exactly what I was looking forward to doing. I might get to visit my dad and stepmom though, provided that they're back from Alaska by then, otherwise I should look into the casinos in the area. I played at Casino Arizona last time I was down there, which wasn't bad, but maybe I need to find out how far Ft McDowell is from where I'm staying.

And also, booo, because there are no Caribou Coffees in Arizona.

Part II of the weekend adventures coming maybe later today if I get some work done.

But, while you're waiting, check out Dr. Pauly's freeroll tonight. Free money for playing poker! How can you resist?

Probably the best book (still) about how to play Omaha 8 is "High Low Split Poker, Seven-Card Stud and Omaha Eight-Or-Better for Advanced Players" by Ray Zee.

Super System 2 has a very decent chapter on Omaha 8 by Booby Baldwin and Mark G.

is a brief primer on pot limit omaha 8 or better

"Pot-Limit & No-Limit Poker" by Stewart Reuben, Bob Ciaffone - has some good material on Omaha 8 (and Hold'em and Omaha High for that matter)

As a general rule though, you are looking for hands that can win both high and low. All 4 or your cards should ideally work together. Your want to not play middle cards. Hands like 6789 are not playable. Having an ace is important in this game. A hand like A246 can be a good hand, especially if the Ace is suited (having the extra low card makes a big difference as counterfeiting happens frequently) Hands like KKQJ are good hands but if 2 low cards come on the flop they loose all lot of value. Trips are difficult hands to play as the low hands are often drawing to straights and flushes. A2 without something more is often not playable except maybe in a weak game in late position. In most Omaha 8 games, very tight is right until you get your sea legs. It is a common saw that you want to have the nuts with redraws to the nuts in the is game. Try and avoid drawing to straights and flushes which will not be the nuts. This is often true of the low as well.

Badger has a couple of articles here about Omaha 8

Just wanted to "officially" apologize for mistaking you for a porn spammer in the WPBT chat... We've had them before, and that screen name of yours made you look like one of them girls. My bad!

Re: Oops!

You're officially forgiven. But it just goes to show you, don't judge a porn spammer by her screen name! :D

I knew once you dropped the "twice confirmed" comment that you weren't a chat spammer. Sorry for the barrage of unsavory comments. I think BG was really ready to hand over his credit card though. He jokes, but...

Thanks, at least someone noticed that :)

And no worries, I thought it was pretty funny, myself. We'll have to find out in Vegas if BG is still going to give me his creditcard number...

A good O8 hand should USUALLY but not always contain A2 with the ace sOOted. That's one starting that you can't go wrong with, at least in limit O8.

I wish I could explain more but I'm that guy who solves math problems and can't explain how I did it :|
