I think for the rest of the evening, I'm boycotting the media, and curling up with my dog and a Clancy book.

I don't want to hear any more. It's not that I don't remember -- I do. I remember in the little things that make me happy every day: my dog going bonkers at 11:30 pm on schedule, the sun shining on my face, the opportunity to leave work early, being able to nap in the middle of the day, warm kitty purring on my lap, friends who pitch in with a smile, vanilla rum and coke, music that makes me dance or sing in the car at the top of my lungs.

I just don't want to talk about it. I don't want to hear about it, I just want to remember quietly, in my own way, and if I'm being brutally honest here, allow myself a little bit of denial. My eyes have filled up with tears too many times to count, today, just listening to the radio.

Although, at the cubs game today, the ceremony was very short, to the point, and stirring. During the 7th inning stretch, a moment of silence, and then we sang God Bless America instead of Take Me Out to the Ball Game, and that was it; it didn't consume the entire game. Of course, we got there 40 minutes late (my fault), so if they had a great deal of ceremony at the beginning, I gratefully missed it.

and one thing I want to remember about this day: my dog graduated from obedience class, and so did I. Life always does go on, and we need to remember that, too.

Current Mood: blah blah

A guy from my office had to fly to Chicago to meet his mother today. He had looked into going to the Cubs game and so he bought some tickets for the game (he bought them yesterday and got great seats btw). We were talking in the office today about how nice it must have been to be there at that park today.

I got to go to one game at Wrigley a couple of years ago, and it was really great. I loved the atmosphere around the park before and after the game. I am officially jealous of you, although jealousy will definitely be suspended during the winter months (all 8 of them).

It was a beautiful day out, but attendance was really down; I wonder if people were nevous/scared/whatever that Wrigley was going to be a terrorist target or the like.

But the game was good, the cubs won, the sun was out. It was an incredibly short game, though (~2:40).

Does that 2:40 count the 40 minutes you missed? :-P

Yes, it does, unfortunately. But, we got there at 2 pm for a 1:20 game, and missed only the first 1 2/3 innings (got there at the end of the 2nd)

I like this town a lot, but I really wish we had a major league team ... glad you had a good day at the ballpark!

Oh yeah, and are you reading the new Clancy book?. I started it on a trip a while ago, and need to get back into it.

Yes, Red Rabbit. It's pretty good, actually, and kept me up later than I wanted last night, so I'm already dragging today, and I'm not finished :)

Though Ryan's wife Cathy is driving me nutso.

When I started it before, I didn't get to the point where I was really sucked in yet. I need to pick it up again.

Clancy drives me nutso. I hope you're enjoying it, because I refuse to even pick it up.

I don't believe that remembrance makes a very good group activity. We can sing songs together, and pray together, and we can go to the ball game and root for our team (even when they suck, as the Braves did last night), but remembering belongs in the heart. Nobody can memorialize things for you; it's a very personal thing.

And congratulations to you and the doggo. :)

I am enjoying the book -- enough so that I'm losing sleep I desperately need. :) However, his portrayal of Jack's wife Cathy is driving me bonkers. But it's a good book.

And thanks! The doggo and I are verra proud of ourselves. :)

(and I agree with you on the rememberance portion)
