weekend craziness

Friday, it was off to droolsee Vin Diesel in XXX with friends. I liked it, in a brain candy way; Vin makes a decent X-TREME Bond, but when push comes to shove, I'll take Pierce over Vin in the spy role. Plus, the avalanche scene threw my suspension of disbelief into the blender and put it on 'puree'.

Saturday I had plans to meet my mom and we were going to overhaul my deck, ending up with a stained/waterproofed beauty of a deck. Instead, I woke up with a screaming headache, and was forced to call Mom and tell her 10 am was not happening. It turned out to be a good thing, as the project turned out to be much bigger than we'd imagined. Not hard, just time consuming. My mom came over to my house about noon, we went and got Chinese food, and then headed to Home Depot, where we hit up two separate older Home Depot Dudes to help us figure out what we needed. My line? "Hi, I need to stain and waterproof my deck, and neither of us has done this before, so um, how do we do this and what do we need?" That was to the first guy, who pointed out that before you can even stain your deck, you need one solution to remove the old stain, another to remove the mildew and then finally a third solution to actually clean the deck. Only then, after the deck has dried, can you go ahead and stain the deck, but not in direct sunlight, thankew very much.

We also got a book on how to do window valences yourself (for $20!), which has a lot of ideas and patterns. My mom's in between her I'm-retired-but-bored-so-why-don't-I-get-a-part-time-job jobs, so she 's going to help me with the house decorations and make/buy the valences and window dressings for my house, so I don't have to spend $99 on a freaking window scarf. I mean, really, how hard can those be to sew?

Then it was off to a BBQ where I was the first one there, and it wasn't very thrilling for the first hour or so, but I had brought Wrigley and he was the life of the party, and everyone complimented him on his behavior. He rocks. But I left the BBQ at 7 or so, as I had to feed the puppy and then head off without him to larold's birthday bash, which was more fun. Plus, I got to watch the Bears suck at their pre-season game.

Alas, I had to leave early from that, too, for my fate was to be at work the next morning at the crack of 6:30 am. Ugh. But a confused dog and cat later that morning (Sunday) I made it into work, and most everything went smoothly. There were a few minor glitches, but everything was resolved by about 2 pm and we went home. Of course, on the way home, we had one more glitch that annoyed us (thanks, Cisco), but we fixed is and now our network is verra verra nice; it'll be better once we fix the other minor things going on (like you need LX lasers to get a signal across the street, instead of SX, but that's not so much of a big deal). But I had no pages for a couple hours by 4 pm, by which time I promptly zonked into unconsciousness.

I can now take a big sigh of relief, go get a scoop of Oberweis chocolate peanut butter ice cream, and either watch CSI, or work on the book I'm reading.

  • Tired.

Being in the office at 8:30 am means getting up at 5 because I hate traffic and traffic starts at 6:30. Wah. But I did get more Caribou. YOMS.

    + ...I have about 4 hours before I can't eat anything that isn't soft...

  • For Lori.
