how do they do that?

So on my way into work today, I noticed that there was a crew of men and a crane putting up a new billboard advertisement; the ad was one of the kinds that is basically a huge plastic sheet stretched taut across the billboard. You never realize how huge those things are until you see them in perspective with a 6 ft man.

So my question is: how, exactly, do they create that piece of plastic? Do they have a really big printer that prints the graphics out in a warehouse? Do they have a bunch of guys painting a really big canvas, or do they print out parts of the final billboard and stitch them together?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Way way too much work to do when 2 of 3 senior network engineers are out in training for a week. And you're the 3rd network engineer.

Which means you get to do your job, plus the other two folks' jobs, plus answer everyone else's questions for direction, so you never get to your job or anyone elses.

So why am I here writing this...?

Damn, it's hard work doing the job of three people. Life is so stressful at work, though it's kind of nice to feel worthy and good. I can get a ton of stuff done, I do know what I'm doing, and it's nice to be reminded of that, even if I can't seem to have a minute or two to think. Tomorrow, though, I'm going to have to go to the lab, as I have to get some reports done, and I'm not going to do that if I'm at my desk.

I need to write more letters. I miss letters. After going through all these old letters I've saved from high school and college, I realize, that yes, e-mail is great, but there's just something about a pen and paper, and the tangibility of words in your hands. Perhaps this leads to a diatribe on what we're losing because of the advent of technology. It's a dual edged sword: e-mail allows us to get quick responses, but really, it's a lot less personal than a hand written letter. And spell checkers, they're great when they catch typos, or the words you can never remember to spell, but younger people these days depend on them, and they can't spell without one. And one of my pet peeves is misspelled words.

Worked on the treadmill, that was good, and I'm waiting now for Heather (zen_raven) to wander over here after she pays the movers so we can get dinner.

It's good that she's now bought a house practically next door; I've been in the area for 6 months and I still don't know where any of the good restaurants are around here. I'll defend myself and say we mostly decided to meet in Schaumburg, which is halfway between my house and her old apartment.
