Day 15 continued
I've learned that some things are easier to give up than others. My list, in order from easiest to hardest to go without:

  • alcohol

  • meat

  • caffeine

  • sweets (except for mini reeses pb eggs)

  • social lunches/dinner with the gang

  • peanut butter

  • bread -- still having problems with this.

I think when this is done, I'm having a peanut butter sammich. Yum.

What?

Not a peanut butter, coffee, sugar, ham, and liquor sandwich?

Hmmm

No, but maybe a pb sandwich with a vanilla rum and coke!

You are waaaaay brave.

I quit smoking. Quit drinking and smokin' pot years ago.

But...my foods? My favorite foods?

(yikes)

I won't say it was easy...

It was really, really, hard for the first week. But then, it got a lot easier, and really, I don't think about it much now, other than it's kind of hard to do social eating, and I do that a lot (or did).

And the giving up of foods is temporary, thank heavens; else, I'd never ever be able to do this -- nor would I want to, as having low carbs and proteins is not really the best thing to eat for the rest of your life.

But I've learned so much about myself and my eating habits from this, I'm glad I did it. I'm also glad I had the crutch of lent to fall on, when people ask why I'm not eating. :)

I've been off caffeine for over half a decade now (except for really rare incidents like my boss ordering Barq's when I ask for rootbeer). I miss chocolate covered espresso beans, but not for their caffeine. What I really miss is real Earl Grey. Decaf Earl Grey isn't bitter enough. Really, though, if all my reasons not to drink caffeine disappeared tomorrow, I don't think I'd go back. It's not worth it.
