I'm a helper!

I'm going for eclectic stuff. Consider yourself warned.

1) A movie - Silent Movie by Mel Brooks. It's awesome.

2) A book - Or two! Dancing Through Life in a Pair of Broken Heels is funny as hell, and I would be disappointed with myself if I didn't also recommend my all-time favorite book, Still Life with Woodpecker, by Tom Robbins.

3) An album - Hrm. Tougher. OK, first, I'll suggest you go to Pier One and buy their holiday CD. I couldn't find a link on their website, but it's totally awesome. Has stuff by Eartha Kitt, Lou Rawls, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, just to name a few. Ummm...another one I'd recommend is a CD put out by a local band in Lawrence, KS called Ultimate Fakebook. Their CD is This Will Be Laughing Week.

4) An LJ user not on your friends list - But there are so many! Um. I think you and Ntnrmlgirl would like each other, and you both write well. And, she makes me laugh! Bonus!

5) A website - Hmmmm...OK, there's a community at Squishettes that's really cool, and they talk about all kinds of things under the sun. Most of the people are pretty intelligent, too, and very friendly.

6) "I laughed. I cried. I'd read her journal again and again." - Napoleon Bonaparte

7) If I knew what 'Maigrey' stood for, it might help in coming up with suggestions...

Re: I'm a helper!

Girl, you rock my world.

Maigrey is from the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0553286005/qid=1008696953/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2_2/002-8250743-1907267>Star of the Guardians</a> series, by Margaret Weis. And hm! I will definitely need to stop by a pier one!

Re: I'm a helper!

I do what I can. Do get the holiday CD if you can at all. I have it out in my car. If I get up enough energy, I'll run out there and grab it later so I can give you the exact title. :)

Holiday Magic! That's what it's called!

I'll bite...

But I'll say this at the outset: I'm not known for my consistent tastes.
  1. Dune, if you like sci-fi. Or if you don't, perhaps Empire of the Sun which always makes me cry.
  2. Summer Sisters by Judy Blume. It's an adult book, even though she's primarily a children's author. Beautiful use of the language and a compelling story.
  3. I have no idea what kind of music you like! How can I recommend an album?
  4. You might like drmellow who is always a good read.
  5. Well, I could recommend my own, but that's cheating, isn't it? How about the Free Will Astrology site? That one is always fun.
  6. Anything from last night's, um, female-only type chat. *giggle*
  7. Have you checked out the Cool Icon site? (I don't have the URL handy but I can get it). They have some good ideas.

Ooh!

I own Summer Sisters! How neat is that? :)

Re: Ooh!

Gaaaaaah! Men!

...but anyway.

I wrote a fanfic story imitating Blume's style in Summer Sisters and it won an award though. The story itself is compelling -- but the style just makes it that much better.

Hey, you should send it to me!

Re: Ooh!

It's right here, if you like Star Trek: Voyager.

I wish I could come close to doing Judy justice...

1) When We Were Kings: you don't even have to like boxing to appreciate it. Prolly better than that Will Smith-vehicle Ali that's about to come out. If yr not in the mood for a documentary, try Pi, the best film about mathmatics and Judaism I have ever seen.

2) Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut. Most of the books I own are non-fiction. This is not. And it is quite good.

3) Paris Combo - Living-Room: updated French cabaret music. Impossible not to move to.

4) You could try circumambulate - he seldom fails to let one know what he thinks

5) www.mulletsgalore.com: a classic.

6) I don't really know ya well enough :)

7) www.mulletsgalore.com!

I really liked Pi. Did you see his second film, Requiem for a Dream? That, too, was amazing.

And oh my, I laughed so hard regarding www.mulletsgalore.com! I have a coworker with a mullet and almost died.

People seem to either love or hate Pi. I fall firmly in the former camp (saw it twice in the theater, own it on video). I haven't seen Requiem yet - I feel like I should read the book first. I'll just add that to the evergrowing list...
