Rich from Four Four wrote an article on this unreleased documentary this past weekend, and the subsequent rise in video requests by readers has motivated Ruth Leitman, one of the directors, to start selling Wildwood on DVD. The clips from it are pretty funny, so it'd be a worthwhile buy. Rich's article: "The video above is a series of clips from the little-seen 1994 documentary Wildwood, N.J. Directors Carol Weaks/Cassidy and Ruth Leitman took to the boardwalk (and its surrounding area) of resort town/hole in the country Wildwood, N.J., in 1992, to explore the culture of the girls and women who populate it. The results are almost entirely hilarious. Even before my posts about it, I have long been obsessed with Wildwood and its unapologetic trashiness. I've always described it this way: if Jersey is the armpit of the U.S., Wildwood is a louse clinging to one of its hairs. Watching the film today, though, it's hard to say where the trashy begins and the products of the time (be they mousse or gel) end, but I'm pretty sure that halo-like scrunchies and shoulder-less button-up shirts and (maybe) lying about all the girls you've beat up and put in the hospital were never a good idea. The film has a feminist bent (just the fact that anyone cares enough to talk to these girls about their lives and dreams bespeaks a rare kind of social consciousness) and it's moving at times, especially during a segment where girl after girl talks about her fatherless life. Mostly, though, it's a big laugh. It feels like a missing link for me, as it's full of females so similar to the ones that surrounded me while growing up just 25 minutes away from the profiled town: girls and women who know they're funny but don't quite realize that they're hilarious. Relating to those people introduced me to the strange sensation that occurs when you find yourself simultaneously laughing at and with a person. That same sensation is present when I watch and talk to people on reality TV." SourceDVD InfoTags: cd and dvd releases, film

paul is in the kitchen, cleaning. seija is in her chair, advising him.
i'm in the office, typing this.
things are good.
.
yesterday there was a fire at one of the neighbor's on the other side of the back alley. their fence burned down; their neighbor's garage had damage. when the firemen did their business, one of the power/utility poles had issues and episodes....there was a huge power surge and all houses to the west of us, starting at our next door neighbor's, had their power go out.
it was 106 degrees when this happened.
anyway.
the power surge caused a fire in the kitchen wall of our next door neighbor. they had to tear out the wall to find it and put it out. mr. neighbor is, understandably, a little upset -- the planks used for the house siding are going to be near impossible to find and he'll have to either make them himself or have them custom made. he also has to have the entire house rewired. all this after his house was broken into last week. mr. man needs to plant some shamrocks....i think i'll buy him some next week.
all this caused all neighborhood phones to fart out and we're without the talky until tuesday afternoon. o.O
i told a friend last night that all this reminded me that disaster is usually only 20 feet away. while we were talking, i told paul i felt blessed that the surge didn't jump our way....that our fence didn't receive damage....that we remained unscathed at all. and that doesn't mean that the universe likes me better, because i feel everyone else is blessed, too. this could have happened at 3 a.m. when everyone was asleep -- it could have happened when it was windy -- it could have happened when no one was around to quickly call the fire department. no one was harmed (or worse), so how can i not think we all were shielded from the cosmic shit hammer?
.
tuesday i have a date with beck to do sewing and projects. i'm looking forward to it x 10. :)

Wimbledon-Federer beats Roddick in marathon finalLONDON, July 5 (Reuters) - Switzerland’s Roger Federer beat inspired American Andy Roddick 5-7 7-6 7-6 3-6 16-14 in a marathon Wimbledon’s men’s singles final on Sunday to claim a record 15th grand slam title of his extraordinary career. Federer was stretched to the limit in an unforgettable duel of enery-sapping tension, losing the first set and then trailing 6-2 in the second set tiebreak before digging himself out of trouble to win six consecutive points and level the match. He could make no headway on the Roddick serve but remained solid on his own delivery to win the third set on another tiebreak. Roddick, beaten twice in previous finals here by Federer, refused to buckle and broke at a crucial moment of the fourth with a great backhand to set up an enthralling decider. With American Pete Sampras, the only other man to win 14 slams, watching intently from the Royal Box, Federer kept his nose in front in a nerve-racking decider and clinched victory after over four hours when Roddick dropped serve for the only time in the match at 14-15 when he mishit a forehand. source: http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news;_ylt=AmbEMpW9VE7_oIw5S6gPxF45nYcB?slug=reu-wimbledonmen_pix&prov=reuters&type=lgnsoh hay look it's Russell Crowe, Woody Allen, and Ralph Lauren lol and sir alex ferguson manchester united manager! lol courtesy of haystar Also, here Roger Federer's (cocky imo) embroidered jacket with "15" on it. This is his 15th grand slam win. Ya ok it's Nike's fault, but still. It makes him look arrogant as shit. Don't get too excited, Nadal wasn't even playing this time.

I really tried searching to see if this was posted, but couldn't find anything. If this is the third post that i made within the past week that was apparently posted already, then FML. Bonus! Rob's Transformers 2 F.A.Q.s!Posted at 12:00 PM Jun 26, 2009 It dawned on me at about 4am last night when I was finishing my review that 2500 words might not be enough to fully describe the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen experience. Additionally, I really didn't get much into the plot, as I was so busy explaining why it was a fundamentally shitty movie. So I took a little time to interview myself about the movie's story in order to help you understand what RotF is all about. Hope it helps! Are there honestly 46 new Transformers in the movie?I have no fucking clue. It's impossible to tell most of them apart except for Optimus and the Racist Twins (there's another yellow Autobot who I constantly thought was Bumblebee). There could be 46, or there could be 12. I honestly would believe 12 if someone had said that. What is the status of the Transformers at the beginning of the film? The Autobots have joined the military to hunt down the Decepticons. We're told the Decepticons are "doing things," but they appear to be hiding peacefully when the Autobots show up and brutally murder them. What?Yeah. The Decepticons aren't apparently doing anything, then the Autobots show up, the Decepticons run for their goddamn lives, and the Autobots hunt them down and brutally murder them. It's kind of weird. ( In case you haven't seen it yet, this will save you a few bucks. )sourceHahaha, i thought it was fun. it depends on the attitude you have coming in. I was expecting mindless explosions, and there we go.Tags: film, interview

http://mcgrupp.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html#3481733917926789939 Summer TestBy Pauly Las Vegas, NVYou really learn a lot about people when they are tossed into stressful situations. Anyone can be cool, calm, and awesome during the easy going fun times, but it's when the shit hits the fan that you glimpse into the real humanity. 9.11 was an interesting moment for me and my friends. I really understood how people think in such troubling times. Some folks stood up and rose to the challenges in front of them while others became muttering muppets and fell in line with the other sheeple. Every summer, I spend 7-8 weeks in Las Vegas covering the WSOP. This year I skipped three weeks to go on Phish tour instead. Why? Because I can and I don't have to 100% rely on the WSOP for income. The majority of poker people secure anywhere from 25-75% of their income in the summer. It's not an easy job despite what everyone thinks. I've turned down more potential job offers to write for people during the WSOP in the last three years. The offers would make your head spin. I've turned down more money than some of you might make in a year mainly because of the insane and thankless work involved. Not to mention all the haters and content thieves who come out of the woodwork. My friends always get me through the tough times. Luckily, I have an amazing support group at the WSOP in addition to those outside the WSOP (like my brother and the Joker and others). Sadly, I lose a ton of respect for work colleagues every summer by their actions. At some point, the pressure gets to them and they snap. Sometimes it happens once a week. Sadly for others, it happens once a day. I'm prone to a few breakdowns every summer. Usually, you want that to happen early into the 7-week assignment so you can quickly recover. For example, Nicky had her meltdown on the morning that I was about to see Phish at Great Woods. She quickly recovered thanks to some friends ( Poker Shrink and Schecky) who looked in on her. Unfortunately, others snap and we lose them for the entire WSOP. It's at those moments when they become dangerous. I make little mental notes. These are people that I don't want to work with in the future (or if given the chance sometime down the line... I won't want to hire these people on new projects) because when it comes down to it, the wilt and buckle under the immense pressure of the WSOP. At the same time, a handful of warriors rise up from the battle field and establish themselves as the elite of poker media. Those are the people I gravitate towards. Those are the folks that I decide to do business deals with down the line and often try my hardest to collaborate with them sometime in the future. Some of those folks I hired this summer to write for Tao of Poker. I called them All Stars because that's how I view their work ethic and the quality of their work. I trust very few people in this world and I trust even less that I meet in poker. Luckily for both me and Nicky, we came from places were trust is not a word that gets thrown around lightly. Almost a decade in Hollywood definitely hardened Nicky, while two stints on Wall Street taught me many survival skills that I need in a surreal planet such as Las Vegas. But sometimes, you see you colleagues fall and they fall hard. The worst part? Some of them try to take you down with them. That's why a joke from Dennis Miller is what I remember the most in these instances... You can't save everyone folks, just try not to be next to the when then blow up. At the same time, a friend of mine, Kid Dynamite who also worked in the trenches of Wall Street, recently wrote something that my old mentor on Wall Street used to say a similar message... One of the mantras my supervisors taught me on the trading desk was not to make other people smarter - if you hear someone say something that you know to be incorrect, assuming they don't work for your firm, you let them go on with their misconceptions. Knowledge is money... Amen, KD. I have less than two weeks to go before I return to the City of Angels. And I'm quietly counting the hours. Hopefully, I can avoid any more daggers tossed at me by bitter colleagues.
